  1. Protect the water in the basin from freezing when the unit is idle.
  2. Heat trace and insulate all outdoor water lines, including the make-up water line to the unit and drain lines.
  3. Perform frequent visual inspections of the unit during operation.
  4. Establish a regular preventive maintenance program.

Closed Circuit Cooling Towers

  1. Charge the coil with ethylene or propylene glycol to prevent the system fluid from freezing.
  2. Maintain adequate flow so the temperature of the circulating fluid is never less than 10°C.
  3. Apply artificial heat directly to the circulating fluid during light loads.
  4. Install a vacuum breaker or air vent at the high point of the system and install a drain at the low point for emergency coil drainage.
  5. Heat trace and insulate all outdoor water lines, including the make-up water line to the unit and drain lines.

Evaporative Condensers

  1. Protect the water in the basin from freezing when the unit is idle.
